The Potential System
The Potential System was created to introduce an element of chance to your characters and gameplay. The idea is that every character’s potential is their will to live and ability to surpass misfortune. This does not mean that the outcomes of events are entirely left to chance… It means that your character can succeed if they make measures to learn the right skills, choose the right equipment and have the blessings of the dice roll.
On the Islands of Septima, your character has the option of being a working member of the Guild. Exactly what sort of tasks your characters enjoy is up to you to draw and depict! The Quicksilver Merchantile and Adventuring Guild, otherwise known as Quicksilver, also has specific jobs and quests for able-bodied people (and creatures!). To do a quest well and efficiently, your character will need to use their experience (EXP) to unlock Skills to add to their Potential Grid, all to increase their Potential Rating. The higher your character's Potential Rating, the better the chance they will succeed! |
The potential grid
Every character starts with a Potential Grid that looks something like the circles on the left. This grid is provided for you when you register your character. The Potential Grid is a 3 by 3 slot chart where your characters can place their skills in. Depending on the number of repeating skills in a set, their Tier and their orientation, your character can receive amazing bonuses for choosing specific skills!
One can think of their skills like a bingo—line them up, match the colours and symbols, and you’ll make it big! |
This is a grid with a row of skills in it. By learning more skills and unlocking more slots, your character can grow from a novice to an amazing adventurer in no time!
Skills placed in open slots are considered Active, and count towards your characters total Potential Rating. All you need to add the numbers in the corner together. In the example, these three skills together yield a base 6 PR! |
Terminology
This is a skill orb! When you take a closer look, it's giving you lots of info.
The ICON shows what type of skill this is. The COLOUR shows what tier the skill is on. The NUMBER is the total Potential Points it gives. So this skill is a Proxima Tier 1 skill that gives 1 PR... Which is the skill Adeptability! (This can also be shorted to P1.) Vertical Divider

A slot that looks like this is locked.
A character cannot place a skill in this slot until it is unlocked by using a Stimulant (purchasable with Silvers on Discord). Vertical Divider
|
A slot that looks like this is open. This means that a character is free to put whatever skill they meet the requirements for in an open slot.

Grid Bingos
Within the Potential Grid, there lies an even deeper power—the power of bingo! By matching the colour and symbols of skills in a row, your character can achieve an even higher potential rating than ever before! The higher your character's potential rating, the stronger they become. Can your character become the strongest adventurer in all of Septima?
There are several different types of bingos that you can make with your grid. (Some examples show full slots open--your grid might be a bit trickier!)

Anything Bingo
Any 3 skills in a row will make an Anything Bingo. This is the most basic of bingos you can create and provides a small bonus! +5 Potential Rating Vertical Divider
|
Tier Bingo
Any 3 skills in the same Tier will make a Tier Bingo. This favours those that want their characters to be multi disciplined. Notice how the colour of the skills are all the same! +15 Potential Rating Vertical Divider
|
Discipline Bingo
Any 3 skills in the same Discipline will make a Discipline Bingo. This favours characters that wish to be strong in one thing only. Notice how the icons of the skills are all the same! +15 Potential Rating |
Combination Bingo
Any bingos made can be combined. Even one row of skills can make several bingos at once, and skills can be shared to create more combos! For example, a grid like this yields an amazing 40 Potential Rating! (Tier+Anything Bingo going horizontally, 15+5 Discipline+Anything Bingo going diagonally, 15+5) Vertical Divider

Full grid bonus
Being able to achieve a full grid is the most prestigious of all. ✨✨On top of all bingos accumulated on the grid, you gain another extra +20 PR for a complete grid. This amazing grid's potential rating in total is 159! This character would be primed and ready for battle, with all the skills they have! But how did we exactly get to this number? Learn how to add it up in the next section. |
How to calculate Your character's potential rating
Now that all the rules of the potential grid have been established, let's recap:
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to come to the #support channel on our Discord so we can help you out!
- Potential Rating is the total number of points added together from a character's Potential Grid
- There are 9 slots in a Potential Grid, arranged in a 3 by 3 square
- Some slots begin locked and must be unlocked with a Stimulant item before the skill can be added
- To apply a skill, the character have properly learned the skill
- Every number on a skill icon represents the base PR number to be added
- By arranging skills in special ways, a character can gain bonus PR to boost their rating

Step 1: Add up all the individual skill potential ratings on the character.
In this example, the grid has 5 locked slots, 1 open slot, and 3 filled slots.
By looking at the symbol and colour, the first two bronze ones are tier 1 Proxima skills, and the last silver one is a tier 2 Distancer skill. The number tells you exactly which skill it is: P1 (Adeptability), P2 (Quick Strike) and D4 (Dual Shaft). By simply looking at the numbers on the skills, we add them all up: 1 + 2 + 4 = 7 Running Total: 7 Potential Rating |
Step 2: Check your character's potential grid for bingos.
The easiest way to do this is to check each row, column and diagonal for the same symbol or colour.
In the example in step 1, the symbols do not match in the bottom row, so there is no Discipline Bingo. The colours do not match, so there is no Tier Bingo. That leaves the Anything Bingo, which grants +5 regardless of what skills are in a row! Total from Step 1: 7 (+5 Anything Bingo) Running Total: 12 Potential Rating |
Step 3: Check your character's equipment, items, and attached pets.
On your character's tracker description, there's a space for their Equipment, Current Item and Attached Pet.
Equipment that is used and attached to a character will offer a flat Potential Rating bonus to the character, meaning all you need to do is add the bonus! However, some equipment like the Impedimenta orbs may break after several uses, so be aware that you don't go into a battle naked! Items are a one-time use bonus to your characters Potential Rating. They are active from the moment you attach it to them, and get used up when the character participates in a quest. Pets are special items that are cosmetic, but may offer special bonuses towards EXP gain and additional quest rewards! Pets do not influence Potential Rating. For example, if the character from the examples above were to equip a Tier 1 Impedimenta Orb, they would gain a flat +10 PR bonus to their overall rating! Total from Step 2: 12 Running Total: 22 Potential Rating |
Step 4: Check your character's race. Do they benefit from a race/discipline bonus?
Certain native races of Septima are stronger at certain Disciplines than others, naturally. For example, Fell Beasts are naturally very strong, so they are well suited to Proxima skills, while the Undine Roravi are extremely good at using Wordsweaver skills. Because of this, you may add a +3 racial bonus if your character has a Discipline Bingo that corresponds to their race.
Discipline (Must be bingo to qualify) |
Races that naturally are good at this Discipline |
Proxima |
Human, Fell Beast, Mortesians, Salamander Roravi |
Distancer |
Sylph Roravi, Humans |
Wordsweaver |
Undine Roravi, Humans |
Artesan |
Nyaga, Gnome Roravi |
In our example, the character does not have a discipline bingo, so they do not qualify for a racial bonus.
Step 5: The final total!
Numbers, Bingos, Equipment, Race—if you remember to add everything carefully in these four above steps, you will arrive at your character's final potential rating. In our example, the below grid has a PR of 22! It may be a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be using the grid like a pro adventurer!
Now that you understand the potential grid and it's uses, it's time to learn some skills to place in the grid.
